Beginner’s Guide

Even as a complete beginner, we want you to know that you’re welcome here at Shanti Yoga Center. Yoga is all about the journey, and if you’ve come here knowing nothing, that’s okay! To help you feel more comfortable, here are some basics to give you an idea of what to expect.

What are the benefits of Yoga?

With a consistent Yoga practice, you can expect to develop a strong and flexible body and mind. Yoga has been around for centuries and the health benefits are plentiful.

 

Yoga provides the following benefits and more:

  • Increased lubrication of the joints, ligaments and tendons

  • Massages all organs of the body

  • Complete detoxification

  • Tones muscles

  • Provides stress relief

  • Encourages restful sleep

  • Improves mental well-being and clarity

Do you have classes suitable for Beginners at Shanti Yoga Center?

For beginners we encourage you to set-up a 30-minute initial meeting with Jessie, Shanti Yoga Center owner and teacher. During this time, Jessie can assess your interest and ability and make recommendations on where to start your practice. In general, we recommend any of the Level 1 and Open Level classes (link to these descriptions). These are marked clearly in the class descriptions (link to these descriptions). If it is your first class ever, be sure to let the teacher know and they will provide modifications and assistance if needed.

 

We also have a Beginner Foundations Series that anyone can register for each quarter. Please ask for more information when you call, email or stop in.

What should I bring to my first class?

  • You should wear comfortable loose-fitting clothing.

  • Bring water and your mat if you have one.

  • Please bring your own towel to any of our hot yoga classes

  • We rent mat towels and mats if needed. We also sell them in the retail area.
