200-hour yga study

This could change your life. really.

Shanti's 200-hour program is more than a certification. It's a seven-month immersion into yoga as a roadmap for living — exploring body, breath, mind, heart, and spirit with some of the most experienced teachers in the region.

Monthly immersives

One weekend per month at Shanti — Friday evening through Sunday afternoon. Small group conversation, yoga and meditation practice, teaching labs, peer-to-peer feedback, and quiet self-reflection. This is where the cohort becomes a community.

Weekly online sessions

Tuesday evenings, 6–8pm online. Guest teachers, peer-to-peer discussion, and deep dives into non-asana content — philosophy, meditation, Ayurveda, and more. Keeps the learning alive between in-person weekends.

Independent Study

35 non-contact hours of observing classes, practice teaching, personal reflection, and integration. This is where the learning moves from your head into your life — the most personal and often most transformative part of the program.

How you’ll Learn

The learning experience

What you learn matters — but how you learn it matters just as much. Shanti values a dynamic, engaged process that meets you in your body and your life, not just on the page.

Investment in yourself

The best way to understand what this training does is to hear from the people who've been through it. These are their words, unedited.

What graduates Say

In their own words

  • "I got so much more than a deeper understanding of yoga. I've connected my mind, body, and breath in new ways — and I've made life-long friendships along the way. Everyone can benefit from this training."

  • "This experience has been a GIFT, made even more meaningful by the incredible people I was lucky enough to share it with. With the happiest tears I've ever shed."

  • "The depth of learning provided by the teachers is knowledge I will draw upon the rest of my life. I completed the training feeling well prepared to be a yoga teacher."

  • "This program was a life-changing endeavor that opened up new channels of understanding myself and helped me evaluate how I want to proceed forward in a richer and more meaningful way."

  • "It was a beautiful experience learning from so many skilled and compassionate teachers. The eclectic array of curriculum and teachers made this experience very rich."

  • "Well worth the investment in yourself — no matter if you have a clear vision of how you may use it in the future or not. Highly recommend."

Questions about The Program

Common Questions

  • Not at all — and most of our graduates don't. This training is for anyone who wants to understand yoga more deeply, whether or not they ever stand at the front of a class. Many students come for personal transformation, to deepen their practice, or simply because they know there's more to yoga than poses and they want to find it.

  • Your amount of experience won't limit your ability to participate or benefit. In fact, this training is an excellent way to build a solid foundation from the ground up. You are welcome exactly as you are — that's not just a nice thing to say, it's how the program is designed.

  • You won't be doing yoga the whole time. Each weekend is a mix of learning concepts, conversation with teachers and peers, practicing yoga, and building teaching skills. All physical practices are designed to meet each individual exactly where they are — modifications are always available.

  • We cap the cohort at 15 students. This is intentional — the training is a community, and that community only works when everyone can participate fully and receive sufficient attention and support from the lead faculty. Small cohorts are a Shanti commitment, not a logistical detail.

  • Students who complete their coursework, training hours, and demonstrate learning objectives receive a 200-hour yoga teacher certificate from Shanti Yoga School, which is licensed as a private career school with the Minnesota Office of Higher Education. The certification is eligible for RYT-200 registration with Yoga Alliance.

  • Students must complete 100% of coursework and attend at least 80% of training (missing no more than 30 hours). If you need to miss a session, you must meet with the content teacher to make up missed content. Make-up instruction is charged at $50/hour. Life happens — we work with you when it does.

  • Yes. Shanti is committed to making this training accessible regardless of financial background. We offer one $500 scholarship and one $500 work-trade position per cohort. The work-trade role involves 4 hours per month of setup and cleanup assistance during the 7-month program. Reach out to Jessie at hello@shantiyoga.center to learn more.
